Leucadendron 'Ebony' (Ebony Conebush) - This bushy compact shrub grows 3 to 4 feet tall by 3 to 6 feet wide with lustrous blackish-purple foliage and burgundy red bracts surrounding the flowers from late winter to summer. Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil and irrigate occasionally to infrequently once established. This new cultivar is a sport of the popular and durable 'Safari Sunset', a hybrid between Leucadendron laureolum and L. salignum, and should be able to handle similar conditions. As such it should tolerate some frost, taking temperatures down to the mid 20s at least, and be able to handle some alkalinity and clay soils. With this dark foliage it should be a great specimen plant in the garden or in a large container – Great for cutflower use.
